HOW TO GET UP

ROLL TO YOUR SIDE

When lying down, how often do you yank yourself upright using your neck muscles?

We want your abs to initiate this movement (spinal flexion), so it doesn’t make sense to move your head and neck first, does it?

  • This "yanking" essentially trains your brain and nervous system to default to neck flexors to lift your body weight off the ground.
  • Not only is “yanking yourself up” a grossly inefficient way of moving, but it’s not helping your chronic neck or back pain either!

TO DO IT: From your back, roll over to one side. Press your top hand to the floor (ahem...or your mattress, I see you nighttime pee-ers) and push yourself upright.
